Mt Field & Botanical Gardens
菲尔德山与皇家植物园
from AUD $135
THE EXPERIENCE
Mt Field is older than the rainforests of the Amazon. The fern gullies you walk through today were already ancient when the first humans reached Tasmania 40,000 years ago. This is a day for moving slowly — three waterfalls, a grove of the world's tallest flowering trees, and an afternoon in the Southern Hemisphere's oldest botanical garden, established in 1818. Bring a rain jacket; the rainforest is rainforest for a reason.

THE JOURNEY
Detailed Itinerary
Lady Barron Falls
巴伦夫人瀑布
A quieter, deeper-set waterfall reached by a 40-minute loop walk through tree ferns and moss-covered logs. Less photographed than Russell Falls, but often the favourite of those who walk both.
Tall Trees Walk
高树观景步道
A 20-minute boardwalk through a grove of Tasmanian swamp gum (Eucalyptus regnans) — the tallest flowering trees on earth. The largest specimens here exceed 80 metres.
Horseshoe Falls
马蹄瀑布
A 10-minute detour from Russell Falls, named for the curve in the rock face that sends water sheeting outwards in a perfect arc.
Russell Falls
罗素瀑布
Three tiers of water cascading through dense rainforest — the most photographed waterfall in Tasmania, and rightfully so. The 25-minute return walk is paved and gentle.
Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens
霍巴特皇家植物园
Established 1818 — the second-oldest botanical garden in Australia and the only one in the world maintaining a Subantarctic Plant House. Expect to spend at least 90 minutes.
