THE EXPERIENCE
The Tasman Peninsula has the highest sea cliffs in the southern hemisphere and one of the best-preserved convict sites in the world — both within an hour's drive of Hobart. The Essential tour covers the land-based wonders of the peninsula and the entire UNESCO-listed Port Arthur Historic Site, in a pace that gives both the geology and the human history their proper weight.

THE JOURNEY
Detailed Itinerary
Tessellated Pavement
棋盘道
A natural rock platform fractured into near-perfect rectangles by erosion patterns rare anywhere else on earth. Best visited at low tide. (Closed 4.15-7.31 each year for safety; substituted with Remarkable Cave during this period.)
Tasman Blowhole
喷水洞
A collapsed sea cave where waves explode upward through a narrow rock chimney on rough days. On calm days, it's a still pool reflecting the cliffs above.
Devil's Kitchen
魔鬼厨房
A 60-metre-deep slot canyon carved into the cliffs by relentless ocean swells. The drop is dramatic; the boardwalk is safe.
Tasman Arch
塔斯曼拱门
A natural rock bridge formed when the roof of a sea cave partially collapsed. Best photographed from the eastern lookout in morning light.
Remarkable Cave
奇观洞
A karst sea cave reached by a long staircase, framing the southern ocean through an opening shaped — depending on your angle — like the outline of Tasmania itself.
Port Arthur Historic Site
亚瑟港监狱
The most preserved convict site in Australia and a UNESCO World Heritage location. Allow 2.5-3 hours minimum: the Penitentiary, the Separate Prison, the Commandant's House, and the Isle of the Dead all included in entry.
